Nova Gorica/Gorizia - assignment from L'Espresso.
A Ferrari is parked in the “Piazza della Transalpina”. The square is divided between the towns of Gorizia and Nova Gorica.
The peace treaty of Paris of 1947 established the new borders between Italy and Yugoslavia. Gorizia was literally divided, the border became for decades the painful symbol of a city in which an unnatural bound had divided many families from their relatives, many people from their beloved deceased and even homes from their barns and fields.
The entry of Slovenia into the EU and the Schengen area dissolved the existing border between the Italian and Slovenian part of the city of Gorizia. The dividing line between the two countries is now the most open of the continent.
